"Come-Heres"   Maryland  Delaware  New Jersey  New York  Pennsylvania

The locals here on the Eastern Shore of VA... call those of us that have moved here or bought vacation/investment properties "Come Heres". There are many of us who have primarily moved from the northeast down to the slower paced life of the shore.  We left family and friends behind and find a more peaceful way of life.

Why don't you tell us your story...  Where are you from?  How do you like the shore? Is this your new primary home or do you just come here for visits?  Do you live on the seaside or bayside...why did you pick that side of  Rt.13.  What is your favorite town? What is the biggest surprise?   Email us your story

I am a Baltimore girl. I grew up in Parkville MD, a suburb just north east of Baltimore City. In fact, I could watch the fireworks at Memorial Stadium from my front steps which is a big deal when you are a kid.  My friends and I were junior Orioles, we sat in the bleachers and we loved it, we could catch a bus, and get to the stadium without parents, we were so grown-up.   My family religiously followed the Colts, my mom served as  President of Colts Corral #1 and Chairperson of the Corral. The names I could drop! Once in a while I would get to go to a Colt game...I had an older brother...he went more often... I'm not bitter...well not much.  Now we are Raven fans and my siblings belong to the Raven Nest # 1.  I also remember going to the Civic Center and watching the Bullets and the Clippers.  I guess that really dates me.  I went to Hillendale Elementary, Dumbarton Middle, Parkville High, and Essex Community College.  I stayed in the same area until I was 30 years old when I met my husband Randy and I moved to Anne Arundel County.  Once we were married we wanted waterfront property  more than anything.  We contracted to buy several homes in the Baltimore/Anne Arundel County area but we couldn't get permits to improve, so they fell thru.  On a trip to Williamsburg we decided to take the long way home and explore the Eastern Shore of Virginia.  We stopped at a Real Estate Office and saw a picture of a piece of land that we instantly fell in love with...of course it was out of our price range, but a year or so later it  was just right!  We were lucky, we got our waterfront property! That was 1991 and we hoped one day to retire on that piece of land...but by 1994 we moved here and in 1996 we had built our home.  I love the slow paced life, and it took me a while to get use to everyone waving at me as they drove by. There was only 2 ATM's on the shore back in the early 90's and most businesses were closed by 6:00; a culture shock.  We only get 3 TV stations 16, 28, 47... haven't seen a NBC show since I moved down here.  We added a few digital stations recently. We love to fish, crab, clam, oyster, or just enjoy a peaceful day on the water. Sitting on the front porch watching all the wildlife ... my idea of a lazy day..  Quite a change for this "city" girl.  I left the rat race behind... I don't miss traveling an hour around the Baltimore beltway each way to work. The traffic of the western shore...just scares me now.  When I visit family, I can't wait to cross the bay bridge and get back to the Eastern Shore!

Bayside or seaside: I love the Bayside, I couldn't imagine not being on  the Bay. I live On Holdens Creek off the Pocomoke Sound.   I love to fish and I love to eat steamed crabs, after all I am from Baltimore!   So I am very happy here.
